COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: ARTS FOR AUTISM: Our Theatre department recently performed on the Gershwin Stage, home of Wicked, with Broadway professionals to raise money for AUTISM SPEAKS this past June 24, 2019! This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to use their talent and passion to spread awareness and compassion for such a worthy cause. Our Booster Club raised $6000 to support the students and their travel expenses for this event. See photos below.
ANTI DRUG AWARENESS: This fall our theatre production students will be performing 21 Chump Street, at Cedar Ridge and for middle schools throughout the RRISD school district. 21 Chump Street is a fourteen-minute mini-musical with book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is known for creating the Broadway musicals In the Heights, Bring It On the Musical, and Hamilton. The show was based on the second act of episode #457 of This American Life, titled "What I Did For Love" and reported by Robbie Brown, in which a high school student falls in love with an undercover police officer, and is ultimately arrested for selling drugs to the officer in an attempt to impress her.
10 YEARS AT THE RIDGE: This year marks the 10 year anniversary of Theatre at the Ridge under the Direction of Kristie Copeland. Our theatre department will celebrate the event at an end of year celebration and musical showcase featuring our current and past alumni students. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting event coming May 9th. Read below for more details. Donations and sponsorships are greatly appreciated.
