COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

ARTS FOR AUTISM:
Our theatre department recently performed on the Gershiw Stage, home of Wicked, with Broadway professionals to raise money for AUTISM SPEAKS this past June 24, 2019.  This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to use their talent and passion to spread awareness and compassion for such a worthy cause.  Our Booster Club raised $6000 to support the students and their travel expenses for this event.  Performance photo below.

ANTI DRUG AWARENESS:
This fall our theatre production students will be performing 21 Chump Street, at Cedar Ridge and for middle schools throughout the RRISD school district.  21 Chump Street is a fourteen-minute mini-musical with book, music and lyrics written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is known for creating the Broadway musicals In the Heights, Bring It On the Musical, and Hamilton. The show was based on the second act of episode #457 of This American Life, titled "What I Did For Love" and reported by Robbie Brown, in which a high school student falls in love with an undercover police officer, and is ultimately arrested for selling drugs to the officer in an attempt to impress her.

SPIRIT OF GIVING:
