Visual and Performing Arts Academy Theatre Classes

These audition-based classes are designed for career-minded and capable students.  Students who are accepted and enrolled into the Academy take classes that are designed to develop students both physically and mentally in the professional techniques of acting, singing, dancing, and stagecraft. .

Intermediate Acting: Comedy and Improv
Technical Theatre I: Beginning Lights, Sound, and Stagecraft
Technical Theatre II: Advanced Stagecraft
Advanced Acting: Shakespeare
Advanced Acting: World Drama
Advanced Acting: American Drama (2013-2014)
Theatre Production IV: Play Analysis/Directing

The Academy at CRHS excels in providing opportunities for students to gain in-depth experience and put thier training to work through performance opportunities.


Fall Show

An intimate performance experience staged in the Black Box Theatre.   Ticketed event.

Kids Musical Theatre Workshop

A one (1) day Saturday workshop from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for ages 7 - 14.  Registration fee required.

Musical Dinner Theatre

A two (2) day event on Friday and Saturday.  Doors open at 6:30 pm, Dinner served at 7:00 pm and Show begins at 8:00 pm.  Ticketed fundraising Gala event.

Children's Theatre Show

A show for children performed during the school day for elementary students with two (2) evening performances at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm.  Ticketed event.

Musical Production

A three (3) day event on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 pm at CRHS or at the RRISD Performing Arts Center.  Ticketed Event.

One Act Play

A UIL Competition where students compete with other schools by performing a 40 minute play to be adjudicated by a judge.  The contest is open to the public with an admittance fee.  There are five advancing levels of competition:  Zone, District, Area, Region and State.  At each level of competition, the critic-judge awards three levels of individual acting awards: Honorable Mention All-Star Cast, All-Star Cast, Best Actor, and Best Actress.  The citic-judge also selects two of the productions to advance to the next level of competition.  After the awards are announced the judge gives an oral critique to each of the schools represented.  Most competitions also include Best Tech Crew.
