Technical theatre courses are great for students interested in earning their fine arts credit or
learning more about what happens behind the scenes in theatre. As tech students advance, they will be placed in class periods based on assessments and skill level. Tech classes do require after school hours in order to fulfill their credit.
CRHS offers students a variety of opportunities to get involved behind the scenes with our Technical Theatre program. Cedar Ridge Tech has five distinct areas of specialization in design and application: Scenery, Costumes, Lighting, Sound, and Stage Management.
Technical Theatre I
The first two years in the program will be focused on being a crew member and observing upperclassmen in designer positions.
Technical Theatre II
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval AND Technical Theatre I
Students learn stagecraft, design, theatre safety, scenery, properties, lighting, sound, costumes, public relations, and career opportunities in the entertainment industry.
Technical Theatre III
Junior year will be focused on being a designer on smaller events & productions with an upperclassmen mentoring throughout the process.
Technical Theatre IV
Prerequisite: Instructor Approval AND Technical Theatre II, III, IV: Credit in Theatre Arts I or the previous level of Technical Theatre
Senior year will be focused on working on a mainstage production in a designer/leader position while also mentoring the next generation of students in the program.
Technical theatre students all have REQUIRED shop hours to fulfill for a grade in their tech theatre class. The number of hours depends on the level of tech theatre they are enrolled.
